Career Overview
Gary’s journey started in an outbound call centre in his teens. Then he started selling ads for a large magazine publisher, followed by a move to The Guardian where he helped to instil a much-needed new business ‘hunter’ culture at the age of 21.
At the age of 24 Gary became Head of Sales for a newly launched native ad network, which was followed by 2 years of insane growth for the business. He hired and trained a team of 12 salespeople with revenue growing to £1m MRR before being acquired in an all-cash deal by their US competitor.
Following the acquisition, Gary became Sales Director, powering growth for 3 more years via new client acquisition thanks to a repeatable cold sales process that he still uses to this day.
Today he runs the sales division of Facets and oversees growth for all our partners.
Career Highlights
Gary’s most proud of the young salespeople he has hired over the past decade – in many cases straight out of university, college, or bar jobs – now going on to become start-up Founders, Sales Directors, or taking prestigious senior roles within digital media, agency land and tech.
Over the years Gary has learned what works and what doesn’t; he’s learned when to apply proven science and when to ‘test and learn’. He tries not to make the same mistakes more than twice, and he ensures everybody around him is excited and passionate.
